
Korba, April 29, 2026:
Panic has gripped commuters on the Bharat Mala Road in Korba district after a second stone-pelting incident within a week. On Monday late night, miscreants targeted a moving car near the highway with the intent to loot. A family from Manikpur, Korba narrowly escaped the attack.
What Happened:
Jitendra Soni, a resident of SECL colony in Manikpur Chowki area, was returning from Bilaspur with his friend. Just beyond Bilaspur on the Bharat Mala main road, 3 youths suddenly started pelting stones at their moving car.
Soni did not stop the vehicle and drove straight to Sarvamangla in Korba. The car was damaged on both sides with visible stone marks.
The victim said the 3 attackers intended to loot. “Had we stopped the car, a major crime could have happened,” Soni told reporters. He has not filed a police complaint yet.
Second Incident in 7 Days:
Earlier on Saturday, a similar attack took place on the Baloda-Tarda road in Urga police station area. 3 to 5 miscreants pelted stones at a car passing through Bharat Mala road. A large stone shattered the windshield and hit a young woman sitting inside directly in the eye, causing serious injury.
The girl was rushed to a private hospital and later referred due to critical condition. Doctors said her cornea was damaged and her condition remains concerning.
Public Fear Rising:
Back-to-back incidents on the same stretch have created fear among locals and commuters. People are demanding increased police patrolling on Bharat Mala Road, especially at night.
Police have not yet received a formal complaint regarding Monday’s incident. Investigation is awaited.
